How to Make a Card: You’re the Best

Isn't this a fun card? I made it using the technique I used on yesterday's scrapbook page.  I used tons and tons of scraps as well as some retired card stock.  This technique is the best way to use up scraps that you love but don't want to get rid of quite yet.  They may have a pretty design that you love or a fun color combination that you want to use.  I even used punches that I had left over from other projects.

 

I made this panel yesterday as well as a few others.  You can see where I used the Hearts Framelits to cut out the hearts.  The panel doesn't look all the great on it's own, but look how fun the hearts are!

You can't see it, but I stamped some hearts on the Regal Rose card base in Pink Pirouhette.

How to Make a Card: Happy Valentine’s Day

I was cruising through some blogs this morning and fun a layout that I wanted to copy. I changed the color combination and the stamp set. This card would be very easy to replicate many times with the technique I used. Plus, if you buy everything to make this card, it will work out to be $1.74 per card. Fun, right?  This might be a fun make and take for Mindy's workshop next Saturday.  I sent her 3 cards from which to choose.  We'll see which one she picks.

1.  Fold 8.5 x 5.5" Whisper White piece of card stock to form card base.

2.  Cut a piece of Basic Black card stock to 3.875 x 5.125" (3 7/8" x 5 1/8")

3.  Cut a piece of Real Red card stock to 3.75 x 5"

4.  If you have the wood  "I Heart Heart" set then ink the various hearts in Real Red and stamp randomly over the Real Red panel.

4a.  If you have the clear mount set, then you can do this and save yourself a lot of time.

Then stamp the smallest heart in the empty spaces.

5.  Adhere Real Red panel to Basic Black panel and adhere that to the card base.

6.  Color the three heart stamps with Melon Mambo, Real Red and Regal Rose Stampin' Write Markers.  Punch out with the Heart to Heart Punch.

7.  Stamp sentiment on Whisper White with Chocolate Chip ink.  Notch the left side.

8. Use Dimensionals to adhere the banner and hearts.

Bye Bye Holiday Mini

Gently Falling was one of my favorite sets in this mini AND IT'S GOING AWAY!  Luckily, I have it and I'm okay.  But, are YOU? This is such a beautiful and versatile set.  I use it for scrapping, for paper projects and for card making.  Hre's a card I made just this afternoon.  I copied it from Carrie Gaskell because it was so pretty.  I changed some things to make it mine, but the concept is hers.  Again, this could be a masculine card even with the ribbon.

 

1.  Fold a 5.5 x 8.5 piece of Naturals Ivory card stock in half to form card base.

2.  Cut a 3.75 x 5" piece of Soft Suede.

3.  Cut a 3.5 x 4.25" piece of  Spice Cake Designer Series Paper.  Attach to Soft Suede panel.

4.  Wrap a Soft Suede 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon around the whole panel.

5.  Color in 3 Very Vanilla Stripes using the Old Olive, Pool Party and More Mustard Stampin' Write Markers (LOVE this idea from Carrie.).

6.  Stamp the inner portion of the leaves in the same colors on strips of 3.5 " x 1.5" Naturals Ivory card stock.  Stamp the outline in Soft Suede for all the leaves.

7.  Sponge the edges of these strips with Soft Suede and distress edges with Cutter Kit.

8.  Stamp the word "thanks" from Trendy Trees and punch out with Jewelry Tag Punch.

9.  Punch a hole in the punch out and thread Hemp Twine through it.  Tied it around the strip with the Pool Party leaf and tie a bow.  

10.  Place your leaves as shown in the photo.

11.  Thread Hemp Twine through the Pool Party Button and attach as shown!

How to Make a Masculine card: Thanks a Million

So, this is actually a Tool Tip.  I have got to tell you about the Color Coach!  This is SUCH a great tool not only for those who are color challenged, but also for those who just love color.  Today's color combination came directly from the Color Coach.  No way would I have put Baja Breeze, Cajon Craze and Basic Gray together, but look at it!  It makes a wonderful masculine card!  

1. Fold 5.5 x 8.5” piece of Basic Gray for card base.

2.  Cut 2.25 x 5.5" piece of Cajon Craze.  Set aside.

3.  Cut a .25 x 5.5" piece of Baja Breeze.  Set aside.

4.  On your 4 x 5.25 piece of Whisper White card stock, stamp the medallion images  from the Mixed Bunch set (available January 4th) using Cajon Craze, Baja Breeze and Basic Gray.  Yes, it's a flower set, but it still looks masculine in those colors and with that layout, doesn't it.

5.  Layer the Whisper White piece onto the Cajon Craze piece you set aside.  

6.  Adhere the Baja Breeze strip to the card base abou 1.5" up.  Adhere the Cajon Craze on top of that.

7.  Using your Paper Piercer and the foam mat and the ruler mat from the Mat Pak, pierce holes along the egde of the Baja Breeze strip.

8.  Stamp Thanks a Million from the Word Play set in Basic Gray on a 1.5 x 2" piece of Whisper White.

9.  If you have NOT cleaned off your medallions yet, stamp those images again WITHOUT reinking around the sentiment.  (Make sure you huff on the stamp to remoisten the ink).  This is called "Generational stamping".  If you HAVE cleaned them off, then ink the images, stamp on a scrap piece of paper once and then stamp around the sentiment.

10.  Using the direct-to-paper technique, ink the edges of the sentiment strip by running the edges directly on the ink pad.

11.  Adhere the sentiment to the stamped panel.

How to Make a Card: Cherish

I have some thank yous to write because of the generosity of some friends and family during Christmas. Here’s a ten-minute card I made this morning.  I had a bit of an idea and it came together pretty quickly!  

This is an easy layout that you can adapt to any of your card making needs.  You can make it fun by changing the color combo to Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Wild Wasabi.  You can make it a Valentine's Day Card by putting a heart in the middle and changing the sentiment.  You can add a bit of Real Red Glimmer Paper for pizzaz.  So fun!

Supplies  Card stock: Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake.  Punches: 2 3/8" Scallop Circle, Butterfly, 1 3/4" Circle, Cupcake Builder.  Accessories: 1/4" Basic Black Grosgrain Ribbon; Dimensionals, Jewels: Basic Pearls. Stamps: Baroque Motifs.  Ink: Basic Black and Crumb Cake. Designer Series Paper: First Edition Specialty

1.  Cut a 4.25" x 5.5" piece of Basic Black card stock, a 4" x 10.5 piece of Very Vanilla (fold in half) and a 3" x 4.5" piece of Crumb Cake.

2.  Punch a 2 3/8" Scallop Circle from a scrap of Very Vanilla,  a butterfly out of a scrap of First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper, a 1 3/4" Circle Basic Black Circle from scrap and the candle from the Cupcake Builder Punch from Basic Black scrap.  

3.  Adhere the Basic Black circle to the scallop circle.

4. Adhere the candle to the butterfly.  Adhere the butterfly to the scallop circle.  Make sure the wings come up a little.

5.  Take 2 sets of three pearls from the line of the smallest pearls and adhere to the Basic Black circle making it look like antennnas.  Set the whole thing aside.

6.  Stamp the Crumb Cake piece with the swirls from Baroque Motifs in Crumb Cake.

7.  Stamp the word "cherish" (or "kind" or any sentiment for that matter!) in Basic Black on the bottom right.  Tip:  stamp the word on grid paper first to make sure you are aligning it properly.  If you REALLY hate imperfection then use a Stamp-a-ma-jig.

8.  Tie a lenght of 1/4" Basic Black Grosgrain Ribbon around the Crumb Cake piece.  

9.  Adhere the scallop circle on top just over the knot so the two ends of the ribbon show.  Use dimensionals.

10.  Adhere the Crumb Cake piece to the front of the 4" x 10.5 piece of Very Vanilla and the Very Vanilla piece to the Basic Black piece.

Christmas Card

I had so much fun at the Holiday Shoppers Open House the other night that we decided we will probably do one quarterly.  It was nice to hang out with all those talented ladies!  

My friend and dowline Cindy G. made this beautiful card.  I know, I know the picture is not great.  However, you still can see the beauty of the Silver Glimmer paper which is what I wanted to show you.  This paper is SO amazing that you will want it year round.  You can color it.  You can die cut it and it's a no mess, no stress kind of paper.  Look how sparkly it is and I took this picture under low light!  

Supplies: Silver Glimmer Paper, Rhinestone Jewels, Hand-Penned Holidays (love this set!), 1/4" Black Grosgrain Ribbon (a total staple), Whisper White and Basic Black Card Stock, Cherry Cobbler Embossing Powder and Craft Ink, Northern Frost Decorative Strip, Stripes Embossing Folder.

How to Make a Card: My Friend

Simple cards are the best and my downline Bernadette made this one for a swap. Here, Basic Black and Very Vanilla with a splash of Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight make a striking color combo. Ever wonder what to do with scraps?  Here's a perfect card to show you how.  Use them to with punches to make the most of the paper.  Stamp on leftover designer series paper and make it a focal point of your card.

Supplies:  Card stock: Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Melon Mambo Textured, Daffodil Delight  Ink: Basic Black; Stamps: My Friend, Always Elegant; Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack: Neutrals; Accessories: Basic Pearls, Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch, Boho Blossoms Punch, First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper

1.  Fold a 8" x 4.25"  Very Vanilla in half for your card base.

2.  Adhere a 4" x 3.75" Basic Black layer to the card base.

3.  Cut a 3.75" x 3.5" piece of First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Tear the top right corner.

4.  Stamp the flowers from My Friend on the left hand side of the Designer Paper.

5.  Cut a 2" square of Neutrals Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack (in a Basic Black design) and adhere it to the top right corner of the Basic Black layer.

6.  Adhere the stamped 3.75" x 3.5" piece of First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper to the Basic Black layer.

7.  Punch out the flowers with the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch using the last setting from Melon Mambo Textured card stock.  Adhere to each other.

8.  Punch the smallest flower from the Boho Blossoms Punch from Daffodil Delight card stock.  Place a Basic Pearl in the middle.  Adhere this flower to the Melon Mambo flowers.

9.  Adhere the flower to the corner of the card.

10.  Stamp the sentiment from Always Elegant on Very Vanilla.  Punch out with the Large Oval Punch.  Adhere to the bottom left corner with Dimensionals.

How to Make a Card: Gently Falling

I like making simple cards, ones that are able to be copied easily and changed simply.  This is one of those cards.  You could change the color combination, the stamp set and the embellishements to make an entirely different card.  You could even change the size and the orientation.  It's a very easy layout to manipulate.

1.  Fold a 6" x 6"  piece of Very Vanilla card stock in half to form the card base. 

2.  Ink the maple leaf outline stamp in Soft Suede and stamp around the edges of the card base.

3.  Do the same for your 2" x 5 1/2" piece of Very Vanilla card stock but leave the top third blank.

4.  Using the bold maple leaf stamp fill in all of the outlines with More Mustard and Pool Party.

5.  Wrap a 2 1/2" piece of Pool Party Ruffled Ribbon around the 2" x 5 1/2" piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  

6. Take another 2 1/2"  piece of Pool Party Ruffled Ribbon and fold as if making a knot.  Wrap and adhere a Very Vanilla brad around the center to make a bow.

7.  Round the edges of a 2 1/8" x 5 5/8" piece of Soft Suede card stock and the 2" x 5 1/2" piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  

8.  Adhere both pieces together and then adhere to the middle of the card.

Your finished card measures 3" x 6".

How to Make a Card: Holly Berry Bouquet Card

I am not a seamstress in any way, shape or form. That does not mean, however, that I do not love all the projects people are making with the lovely fabric from Stampin’ Up!  So, what's a non-sewer to do?  Make cards!  Here is a lovely card made by KJ, a sideline of mine.

1. Fold your 5.5" x 8.5" piece of Wild Wasabi in half to create a card base.

2. Run a 4" x 5.25" piece of Real Red card stock through the Big Shot using the Petals-a-Plenty Embossing Folder.  Attach to the card base with Mini Glue Dots.

3.  Stamp the stem and leaves from Sweetheart using Wild Wasabi on a 3" x 4" piece of Whisper White.

4.  Cut a 3.5" circle using either the Original die for the Big Shot OR your Craft Scissors (which are AWESOME for fabric, by the way)

5.  Here comes the sewing part, but trust me, it's EASY!  Thread your needle with thread that matches your fabric. In this case, the Holly Berry Bouquet Fabric. You won't really see it, but just in case.  Now, sew stitches rather close together around the circle.  I eyeballed them to make them about 1/4" of an inch apart.  

6.  When you get to the end of the circle, pull the thread and the circle will close in on itself.  Adjust the pleats to your liking and knot the thread.  

7.  Thread Cherry Cobbler/Whisper White Baker's Twine through the Holly Berry Bouquet Real Red Button and make a bow.  Attach to the center of the flower with Sticky Strip.  Attach the flower to the top of the stem with Sticky Strip.

8.  Take your Real Red stamp pad and brush the edges of the Whisper White card stock.  This is called Direct-to-Paper.  Be careful handling the card stock as the Real Red WILL smear until it dries.  You can zap it with th heat tool if you don't want to wait.  Attach the panel to the Real Red panel on your card.

9.  Stamp the sentiment from Holiday Happiness on Whisper White and punch out with the Large Oval Punch.  Do the Direct-to-Paper technique on the oval.

10.  Punch out Wild Wasabi using the Scallop Oval punch and attach to the back of the Large Oval punch out.  Attach that to the bottom of the Whisper White panel.  Add a rhinestone to the sentiment.
