How to Make a Card: Faith in Nature

This is a beautiful yet simple card. It’s also very reproducible so that you can make a lot of them with very little effort and supplies on your part. This is the kind of card that you can change the color combo and stamp set very easily to get a whole different look.  I love the clean and simple lines of this card.  

Supplies: Soft Suede card stock and Taffeta ribbon; Very Vanilla card stock, Early Espresso ink and cardstock; Pear Pizazz ink and card stock; Patterns Designer Paper Pack: In Color 2010-2012 Pear Pizzaz; Sponge Daubers

1.  Fold your 4.25" x 11" piece of Soft Suede card stock in half for your card base.

2.  Stamp the pear image from Faith in Nature in Early Espresso ink on to a Very Vanilla scrap.  Sponge Pear Pizzazz on the pear and leaf.

3.  Tear around the image and ink the edges with Early Esspresso.

4.  Mount the image onto a 2.25" x 2.75" Pear Pizzazz Pattern Designer Paper.  

5.  Adhere that to a 2.5" x 3" piece of Early Espresso.  

6.  Adhere that to a 3" x 4.75" piece of Whisper White.

7.  Stamp the sentiment from Faith in Nature in Early Espresso at the bottom of the Very Vanilla.

8.  Tie a 10" piece of Soft Suede Taffeta around the Very Vanilla in between the image and the sentiment.  

9.  Adhere the whole thing to the card base.

How to Make a Card: My Friend

Simple cards are the best and my downline Bernadette made this one for a swap. Here, Basic Black and Very Vanilla with a splash of Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight make a striking color combo. Ever wonder what to do with scraps?  Here's a perfect card to show you how.  Use them to with punches to make the most of the paper.  Stamp on leftover designer series paper and make it a focal point of your card.

Supplies:  Card stock: Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Melon Mambo Textured, Daffodil Delight  Ink: Basic Black; Stamps: My Friend, Always Elegant; Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack: Neutrals; Accessories: Basic Pearls, Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch, Boho Blossoms Punch, First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper

1.  Fold a 8" x 4.25"  Very Vanilla in half for your card base.

2.  Adhere a 4" x 3.75" Basic Black layer to the card base.

3.  Cut a 3.75" x 3.5" piece of First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Tear the top right corner.

4.  Stamp the flowers from My Friend on the left hand side of the Designer Paper.

5.  Cut a 2" square of Neutrals Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack (in a Basic Black design) and adhere it to the top right corner of the Basic Black layer.

6.  Adhere the stamped 3.75" x 3.5" piece of First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper to the Basic Black layer.

7.  Punch out the flowers with the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch using the last setting from Melon Mambo Textured card stock.  Adhere to each other.

8.  Punch the smallest flower from the Boho Blossoms Punch from Daffodil Delight card stock.  Place a Basic Pearl in the middle.  Adhere this flower to the Melon Mambo flowers.

9.  Adhere the flower to the corner of the card.

10.  Stamp the sentiment from Always Elegant on Very Vanilla.  Punch out with the Large Oval Punch.  Adhere to the bottom left corner with Dimensionals.

Book Treats?

Do you like books?  I love them.  Do you devour them?  If you do, then this post is for you.

Okay, it's not your typical book, but so fun!

This little book has a surprise inside.

Let me tell you how easy this is to make.

1.  Make the box base using the Matchbox Bigz XL die for the Big Shot.

2.  Stamp a 5 1/2" x 3" piece of Old Olive with stamp set of choice.  (This one is RETIRED and I didn't know!  I'll post another one with a current stamp set soon.).

3.  Stamp a piece of Chocolate Chip 1 3/4" x 3"  with stamp set of choice in VersaMark.  Emboss with Crystal Clear Embossing Powder.

4. Sponge the Old Olive card stock with Chocolate Chip ink.

5.  Adhere 4" of your choice of ribbon (Oh dear.  This ribbon is retired, too.) to the inside of the "book cover".

6.  Adhere one side of the book cover to the underside of the box with Sticky Strip.

7.  Wrap nuggets with Chocolate Chip card stock measuring 1" x 3".

8.  Stamp Old Olive card stock measuring 3/4" x 3".  Wrap nuggets and put them in the box.

Very simple, very fun!

How to Make a Card: Gently Falling

I like making simple cards, ones that are able to be copied easily and changed simply.  This is one of those cards.  You could change the color combination, the stamp set and the embellishements to make an entirely different card.  You could even change the size and the orientation.  It's a very easy layout to manipulate.

1.  Fold a 6" x 6"  piece of Very Vanilla card stock in half to form the card base. 

2.  Ink the maple leaf outline stamp in Soft Suede and stamp around the edges of the card base.

3.  Do the same for your 2" x 5 1/2" piece of Very Vanilla card stock but leave the top third blank.

4.  Using the bold maple leaf stamp fill in all of the outlines with More Mustard and Pool Party.

5.  Wrap a 2 1/2" piece of Pool Party Ruffled Ribbon around the 2" x 5 1/2" piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  

6. Take another 2 1/2"  piece of Pool Party Ruffled Ribbon and fold as if making a knot.  Wrap and adhere a Very Vanilla brad around the center to make a bow.

7.  Round the edges of a 2 1/8" x 5 5/8" piece of Soft Suede card stock and the 2" x 5 1/2" piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  

8.  Adhere both pieces together and then adhere to the middle of the card.

Your finished card measures 3" x 6".

How to Make a Card: Holly Berry Bouquet Card

I am not a seamstress in any way, shape or form. That does not mean, however, that I do not love all the projects people are making with the lovely fabric from Stampin’ Up!  So, what's a non-sewer to do?  Make cards!  Here is a lovely card made by KJ, a sideline of mine.

1. Fold your 5.5" x 8.5" piece of Wild Wasabi in half to create a card base.

2. Run a 4" x 5.25" piece of Real Red card stock through the Big Shot using the Petals-a-Plenty Embossing Folder.  Attach to the card base with Mini Glue Dots.

3.  Stamp the stem and leaves from Sweetheart using Wild Wasabi on a 3" x 4" piece of Whisper White.

4.  Cut a 3.5" circle using either the Original die for the Big Shot OR your Craft Scissors (which are AWESOME for fabric, by the way)

5.  Here comes the sewing part, but trust me, it's EASY!  Thread your needle with thread that matches your fabric. In this case, the Holly Berry Bouquet Fabric. You won't really see it, but just in case.  Now, sew stitches rather close together around the circle.  I eyeballed them to make them about 1/4" of an inch apart.  

6.  When you get to the end of the circle, pull the thread and the circle will close in on itself.  Adjust the pleats to your liking and knot the thread.  

7.  Thread Cherry Cobbler/Whisper White Baker's Twine through the Holly Berry Bouquet Real Red Button and make a bow.  Attach to the center of the flower with Sticky Strip.  Attach the flower to the top of the stem with Sticky Strip.

8.  Take your Real Red stamp pad and brush the edges of the Whisper White card stock.  This is called Direct-to-Paper.  Be careful handling the card stock as the Real Red WILL smear until it dries.  You can zap it with th heat tool if you don't want to wait.  Attach the panel to the Real Red panel on your card.

9.  Stamp the sentiment from Holiday Happiness on Whisper White and punch out with the Large Oval Punch.  Do the Direct-to-Paper technique on the oval.

10.  Punch out Wild Wasabi using the Scallop Oval punch and attach to the back of the Large Oval punch out.  Attach that to the bottom of the Whisper White panel.  Add a rhinestone to the sentiment.

How to make a card: French Foliage

Supplies                                                                                                                                    Stamps: French Foliage; Ink: More Mustard, Crumb Cake; Paper: More Mustard, Early Espresso Textured Card Stock, Whisper White, Spice Cake Designer Series Paper; Accessories: Victoria Crochet Trim, More Mustard Grosgrain Ribbon (retired), KRAFT CORDUROY BUTTONS (in the Clearance Section for now)

This is a fairly simple card, but pretty card one of my sidelines made for a swap.

1.  Fold 8.5" x 5.5" piece of More Mustard card stock in half for card base.

2.  Cut a 4" x 4" of Early Espresso Textured Card Stock

3.  Cut two 1" x 4" strips of Spice Cake Designer Series Paper. Attach to the back of the Early Espresso Textured Card Stock leaving about a 1/4" showing.  This is a great way to have a layered look and save paper at the same time.  Attach this to the middle of the card.

4.  Cut 6" strips of Victoria Crochet Trim and More Mustard Grosgrain Ribbon and adhere the More Mustard Grosgrain Ribbon on top of the Victoria Crochet Trim.  Adhere the ribbon around the card base about an inch from the right.

5.  Cut a 2.5" x 3.75" piece of Whisper White card stock.  Ink each leaf with More Mustard first and then a bit of Crumb Cake.  Stamp as desired.

6.  Mount the main image on a 2.75" x 4" piece of More Mustard.  Attach this in a sideways fashion to the  middle of the card.

7.  Thread the Linen Thread through the Kraft Corduroy Button and make a bow.  Attach to the bottom of the ribbon.

Are You Grateful?

I am part of a great organization called Moms in Touch International. My chapter meets every Monday to pray for the school our kids attend.  Every month we provide goodies for the teachers and staff at the school to show them how much we appreciate them.  Here's the little plaque to put up with our spread.  I might make one for every month, but haven't decided yet.

Tip: to figure out what color combo to use, I looked at a Designer Series Paper pack.

Is there someone whom you appreciate?  Let him or her know today. A phone call, an e-mail, a card, a letter or a great big hug all work to tell someone you are grateful.

Tool Tip: Crimper

The Crimper is an awesome tool!

Features & Benefits

• Crimps material up to 6-1/2" wide
• Crimps Card Stock, Designer Series Paper, On Board chipboard, Waffle Paper, tissue paper, wrapping paper, and more—if it will fit between the rollers, is flexible enough to bend, and can hold a crease, you can crimp it Metal and plastic construction

Quick Tricks

Fold paper in half and run it through the Crimper at a 45 degree angle. When you unfold the paper, you’ll have a fun herringbone pattern.

Run paper through once, and then turn it 90 degrees and run it through again. This gives you a soft waffle pattern.

Emboss card stock with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder, run it through the Crimper, and you have faux corrugated tin (perfect for masculine projects). Just sprinkle Stampin’ Emboss Powder over the paper and heat using the Heat Tool, and then sprinkle on additional powder while the image is still hot and reheat. Repeat at least three times, and then run the embossed card stock through the Crimper while the embossing powder is still warm.

FYI

For the straightest and tightest crimp, place your index finger at the top of the handle and firmly squeeze the handle while crimping. For paper larger than 6-1/2" wide, fold before feeding through the rollers.

Make sure your paper is inserted straight into the Crimper. If your paper goes into the Crimper crooked, the crimped paper will have a slanted textured image. Arrows on the front of the Crimper show you the proper direction to insert the paper, and guides on the side help you line up the paper.
