How to make a masculine card

For those of you who struggle with masculine cards, then you do NOT want to miss your last chance to order from the Summer Mini. Pages 8-13 are really dedicated to the male population as the plethora of images, color combos and samples really bring out the macho side of rubber stamping, card making, scrapping and paper crafting. These images are fresh and manly.

How to make a manly card:

1.  Fold a 5.5" x 8.5" piece of Confetti White card stock (#102835).

2.  Cut a 3.75" x 5" piece of Confetti White card stock (#102835).

3.  Stamp the Sail Away stamp (123013) in the middle of that piece.  Stamp it again on a scrap piece of Confetti White card stock (#102835). 

4.  Drag the Pool Party Stamp Pad across the top portion of the 3.75" x 5" piece of Confetti White card stock (#102835).  If needed drag across again until the desired coverage is reached.

5.  Put a 3" x3 post it note on the bottom of the 3.75" x 5" piece of Confetti White card stock (#102835). This is called "masking" and will keep the ink confined.  Drag the Lucky Limeade Stamp Pad across the middle portion.

6.    Put another 3" x3 post it note on the bottom of your Lucky Limeade color strip. This will keep the Island Indigo from getting into your Lucky Limeade.  Drag the Island Indigo across the bottom portion of the card stock.  

7.  Cut out the sails from the scrap piece and adhere with Dimensionals to the main image.

8.  Add Black brads from Neutrals Assortments (119736) to the corners.

9.  Place in the center of the card base.

I had a great getaway weekend with my eldest daughter. We talked, ate, shopped, got a mani-pedi and watched a fun movie. How To Properly Light A Photo

 

(Here's a nice article from eHow.com on how to properly light a photo)   Proper lighting is one of the most crucial elements of a good picture, yet is one of the most commonly overlooked. Follow these simple steps to make sure your pics impress. Step 1 -  Determine the "dominant light source." An easy way to do this is to look at the shadows in the area - they will point away from the dominant light source. If there are multiple light sources, the dominant one will create the darkest shadows.  Step 2 -  Decide what type of shot you're after. Usually you'll be wanting a fully-lit shot of your subject with as little shadow as possible.  Step 3 -  If you're going for a normal, well-lit photo, shoot away from the light source. This will eliminate harsh shadows and make sure your subject is lit up in your pic.  Other Tips - Don't rely on the flash! Most digital cameras have an automatic flash that's there to "fill" in bad lighting situations. Problem is, it's usually a pretty harsh light, and can wind up reflecting off your subject and making them look washed out. If there's enough light in the area and you're following these steps, turn the flash off! If you're outside during the day, the dominant light source is easy to find - not much is going to outshine that big light in the sky. Shoot away from the sun whenever possible. Don't stifle your creativity. Odds are you've got over a hundred shots to waste on that camera of yours - use them. This is simply how to properly light a photo - sometimes improper shots can accidentally wow everyone with your artistic ability!

Little Gifties

AWANA is a great club for boys and girls.  I’m a leader for the 3rd-6th grade girls and every year my director likes to come up with a theme for the year.  This year’s them is the Gospel of John.  If you have read that book of the bible you would notice that one of the key words that is repeated many times throughout the book is “believe”.  I like to give little gifties to my girls every year so that first, they know that they matter and 2nd that will remind them of the theme.  

I found this little composition books at Target for $1 for two.  They are totally cute and easy to alter.  I would have covered them completely, but I actually like the pattern on it, so I made it a part of the whole project.  I had to make something simple because I wanted to make sure that it actually got done before the first club night.

 Totally easy and totally cute.  The Big Shot Multipurpose Adhesive sheets were VERY useful for this project. I love them! Did you know that you get TWELVE sheets!  I didn’t!  You can learn something new every day.

I knew that they would ride in the girls’ bags all year so this adhesive was perfect to keep everything together. You can actually add your base material to the adhesive sheet and run it through the Big Shot. Then peel and adhere to your project.  Makes it go so much faster and you don’t get any lifting edges.  

I added the basic pearls for a little bling.  I can’t wait to give them to the girls.  

I am going to make some gifties for the girls’ teachers, too.  Of course, my 7th grader will have about 7 teachers, so I might have to modify, if I do it at all.  I’m not sure that she would like giving a gift to her Jr. High teachers.  Luckily, I have a 5th grader and a Kindergartner so I can still give something to their teachers.

I hope that you will find ways to encourage the teachers in your lives throughout this year.  They don’t have to be school teachers to teach you something.  I know my husband teaches me and my friends teach me and my girlies teach me.  Who teaches you?  Let me know in the comment section.
