Hello Cyberspace!
I know it's been a while. Have you missed me? No? What do you mean? You haven't been waiting with bated breath for my next installment? Gasp! That's all right, I know you love me.
So, I have a friend who fled from Rwanda with nothing but the clothes on his back. He lost his dad and most of his family to the genocide going on there. He lost everything yet still knows that the Lord of Heaven and Earth is not only in control, but loves him with a deep, deep love. He has seen horrors most of us cannot imagine. Yet, he knows without a shadow of a doubt that the Lord does truly love him. Why am I telling you this? See, there's more to this story!
The people of our church, Fellowship Bible Church Colorado Springs, surrounded this man and loved him. They sheltered him, helped him find a job, helped him get an educations and provided for him. He met and married a sweet, sweet lady and they moved to Minnesota where he found another job. They lived happily, but his wife, also my friend, had a horrible miscarriage and other problems leading the doctors to say that she would NEVER get pregnant. My friend said, God is in control and we can trust Him. He prayed for His will, hoping of course, the doctors would be wrong. Well, a year and 3 days later after the pronouncement that she would NEVER get pregnant, she gave birth to a BEAUTIFUL baby boy!!!! During the pregnancy there were problems as well. The doctor was telling my friend the problems they were facing when he said, "Stop! Just stop! God is in control."
He is right. For those of you who have so many hurts that you don't know where one starts and the other ends, please know that the Lord will walk with you through it, if you'll let Him. My friend can tell you. As of now, he doesn't have a job again, but he knows Who will provide.
I was fortunate enough to help with the shower and invitations. Here's what I made.
I knew I had to keep the design simple because the event was really a Welcome Zachary party rather than a shower. The parents really wanted everyone to meet their little boy rather than having a party to get gifts. I used Soft Sky and Blue Bayou and Real Red as my color combo for the invitations. You can't really see it, but I stamped the Elephant from
Wild About You. I also used the
Small Star Punch and the
Round Tab Punch.
I also made the cute diaper cake and banner. I finally got to play with the
Circle Scissors Plus! I LOVE that thing. It was so easy to use and made so many fun circles. It's a really good idea to get the glass mat if you want to use it, though.
You probably noticed that the color combo is a little different. I didn't have enough of last year's In Colors to finish the decorations. So, I used Brilliant Blue, Bashful Blue and Real Red. I also used the
Large Star Punch as part of the decorations.
The last thing I'll show you are the party favors I made.
Just think of all the party favors you could make in minutes or the teacher's gifts or wedding favors. The list goes on!
I was thanked over and over again for my small part in this amazing story. I was even thanked by some of the guests! It was an honor to use the gifts God and Stampin' Up! have given me to help make this a special day. I'm not naturally a creative person, but I love creative things. I always have. But, because of all the ideas, inspiration and teaching Stampin' Up! gives, I was able to put this together.
